Acupuncture can help you heal from traumatic injuries. Whether it is a sports injury, an injury due to a fall, or even a motor vehicle accident, acupuncture techniques can assist the body in healing and repairing itself. By directing the “flow” of energy and blood according to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, acupuncture and other techniques can speed up healing and even alleviate pain.

acupuncture point diagramWe tend to think about slip and fall accidents more when it’s freezing cold outside, but they can really happen at any time of the year. The top injuries reported after an unexpected slip and fall accident include head, hip, back, shoulder, and wrist injuries. These injuries can have a wide range of severity from concussions, broken bones, and soft tissue injuries; sometimes taking anywhere from a week to months to heal and recover from.

Chinese Medicine views any trauma as creating an element of qi or blood stagnation. When qi and blood are not flowing smoothly throughout the body and the meridians, you may notice swelling, discolouration, heat, cold, and most commonly: pain. By utilizing the different meridians that run along the body, acupuncture can help to promote the flow of blood and qi in the affected area as well as stimulating the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural pain relieving neurohormones. Treatment can involve a combination of local or distal acupuncture points, as well as the use of tui na (massage) or cupping depending on the patient, the severity, and the location of the injury.

If you have suffered a fall injury lately, you may want to get it looked at by your holistic health practitioner. You can click here to book an appointment with one of our Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctors, today.
